Somewhere, sometime, and somehow in our lives, we have come in contact with aquarium keeping.
You probably remember what a pleasure it was having a tank with fish and the many hours you sat
watching the antics of your fish. The excitement you felt as you took a tour of the local fish store. So
many beautiful fish to choose from and so many tanks to view. At the time, you did not realize what
benefits you received when you were fish keeping. Nor did you realize that your aquarium was a
great way of keeping you healthy and living longer.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF AQUARIUM KEEPING
Anyone who watches a tank with fish will feel a calming effect, therefore reducing stress. At Purdue
University, researchers discovered that displaying tanks with brightly colored fish helped to curtail
disruptive behaviors and improve eating habits of people with Alzheimer's Disease. It helps to
boost physical and mental health. It also helps to create bonding and a positive attitude.
WHO BENEFITS FROM AQUARIUM KEEPING
Studies have shown that seniors who were given the opportunity to view aquariums with fish had
significant blood pressure reduction and cholesterol. Children, when visiting a doctor's office,
were found to be much calmer, especially children who suffered from hyperactivity disorder.
Dental patients watching a fish tank required less pain medication. It also helps in reducing
insomnia and persons coping with obesity.
